Job Title: Executive Director

Serve as the executive director. Recommends and participates in the formulation of policy and makes decisions within existing policies. Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the programs and activities of the association to assure that the association’s objectives are achieved and member needs met. Maintain effective internal and external relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES and AUTHORITY:
Within the limits of the bylaws and policies established or authorized by the Board of Directors (BOD), the executive director (ED) is responsible for and has commensurate authority to accomplish the duties set forth below. The ED may delegate portions of the responsibilities consistent with sound operations and authorized policies and procedures, together with authority for their fulfillment, but may not delegate or relinquish any portion of accountability for results.
Informs the BOD, executive committee and committee chairs on the conditions of the association and important factors influencing them.
Plans, formulates and recommends basic policies and programs for approval by the BOD. Develops specific policies, procedures, guidelines and programs to implement the general policies established by the BOD, as well as commonly accepted standards for national associations.
Develops and recommends an annual budget to the BOD, and manages the financial affairs within the approved budget.
Reports to the BOD and appropriate committees on a timely and accurate basis on all aspects of all programs.
In conjunction with the appropriate committees is responsible for the planning, promotion and administration of all meetings of the association.
Coordinates education programs to advance the professional skills of the membership, operating within budget and program objectives approved by the BOD.
Serves as spokesperson concerning business affairs of the association as directed by the BOD.
Oversees business development and outside recruiting including vendor
Maintains effective communications and public relations enhancing COCSA through utilizing methods such as the COCSA website, listserv, newsletters, and email contacts.
Serves as an agent of COCSA in negotiations for services and contracts. Executes contracts and commitments as may be authorized by the BOD or established policies.
Provides for maintenance and security of property, equipment and furnishings of COCSA.
Secures and maintains corporate documents, seals, records, membership lists, financial statements, minutes and reports.
Reviews the association’s bylaws and statements of policies and advises the BOD on revisions.
Performs other duties as directed from time to time by the BOD.
COCSA Board of Directors. The president of the BOD serves as the ED’s direct supervisor.
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited institution and/or
Five years of work experience in management - association management preferred
Membership and educational development experience preferred
Basic understanding of lobbying and government affairs
The COCSA Executive Director position works from a virtual home office.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
