The Data & Marketing Association is the community that champions deeper consumer engagement and business value through the innovative and responsible use of data-driven marketing. The primary responsibility of a Manager, Member Relations will be to engage senior marketing executives at range of companies, from small firms to large corporations, to ensure service delivery and to conduct membership renewal interactions. Through in-person, outbound telephone and electronic communication efforts, the primary goal is to create and deliver value for member organizations. The incumbent will be evaluated against renewal rates, dues base growth, and service metrics.
This candidate would be part of a membership team comprised of two relationship managers (one being the candidate) and a coordinator all reporting to a Director.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Building relationships with individuals at member organizations through understanding specific member needs and applying knowledge of association services
Utilize warm- and cold-call techniques to drive a high volume of structured, phone-based member interactions
Educate members / prospects on the benefits of association membership through compelling articulation of the membership model and value proposition
Create semi-custom service plans for members, based on their individual needs and deadlines
Collaborate with other association staff to ensure targeted and substantive delivery of membership services
Share feedback and intelligence gained on association competitors to further improve the association value proposition
Work with member company executives to maintain engagement and activity levels to drive membership renewals
Maintain a current view into membership pool and renewal pipeline, including scheduled interactions and recommendations for service steps
Determine appropriate tactics to drive urgency in the sales cycle, including special offers, engagements, meetings / teleconferences or discounts
Documenting progress, opportunities, and contacts by capturing the information in the association CRM system
Fill in for the sales & membership coordinator as needed when he/she is out of the office
Other duties as assigned
Travel: Limited, but less than 10%
Desired Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or relevant field
2-4 years of experience in inside sales and/or account management, preferably with associations
Background or strong interest in direct marketing or related issues is highly desirable
Must be able to meet personal and team weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial goals.
Excellent relationship-building skills and transactional sales experience
Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
