SLAS has an immediate opening for a Director of Marketing and Communications to become a member of a dynamic professional team comprising leaders in non-profit management, business development, and corporate relations dedicated to the continuous quality improvement of educational programs and services. This position calls for a strategic, proactive, technology savvy, energetic professional with a specific focus on the development and effective execution of the Society’s marketing and communications programs. NOTE: SLAS will be relocating to Oak Brook, IL in 2018.
Provide innovative leadership and drive the vision and direction of SLAS marketing and communications initiatives. Develop integrated marketing plans and budgets that reflect the Society’s evolving strategies, financial goals and available data; and that consider existing audiences, potential new audiences, trends and forecasts and the competitive landscape.
Oversee the on-time, on-budget and on-target execution of marketing plan components, including but not limited to:
Branding, messaging and creative direction
Event promotion (in advance and onsite)
Member programs, product and services promotion
Membership recruitment, retention and engagement
Web site, online and social media
Understand membership databases, demographics and related reports
Research, establish and cultivate relationships with strategic alliances and associated entities for further marketing penetration.
Create an environment and culture that focuses on member value and continuous quality improvement. Successfully engage in the virtual management model, which includes but is not limited to:
Actively foster regular two-way communication with colleagues at all levels of the Society (volunteers, staff and members) in US and Europe
Ensure there is a team-wide understanding of marketing plans and goals
Set strategic direction, provide counsel and work with the SLAS marketing and communications team members in Europe
Manage, mentor and develop the professional team members who are responsible for member communications and social media
Ability to develop cohesive strategic marketing plans that sell products, build event registrations, enhance the Society’s value proposition and increase revenues
Proven analytical and market research skills
Strong financial analysis skills
Proven written and verbal communication skills that effectively express new ideas and present facts and data in a manner that is clear and focused to a target audience
Ability to develop and grow business relationships with diverse groups of specialized professionals
Ability to apply marketing knowledge, analysis and research into actionable marketing plans
Ability to create, lead and develop teams of professionals
Minimum five years comprehensive nonprofit marketing and/or communications management experience; association management experience preferred
Superior organizational skills that use computer planning tools
Strong Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
iMIS experience preferred
Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with professionals located around the world in a high-volume environment utilizing electronic tools such as e-mail, Skype, Webex, Dropbox, etc.
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related educational field
Minimum five years management experience preferably in the areas of marketing or communications in a non-profit environment.
Telecommuting is allowed.
