The successful candidate will have an accounting degree and/or 2 years practical experience as a full-charge bookkeeper, be proficient in Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and Outlook, experience using some type of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree, proprietary, etc.), good communication skills and be able to organize, prioritize, and work with minimal supervision.
This is a year-round, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Work schedule is 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday. Starting wage is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include pension and paid time off.

JOB DESCRIPTION ______________________________________________________________________________ JOB TITLE:Full-charge Bookkeeper LOCATION:Springfield STATUS:Regular, full-time (37.5 hours/week) REPORTING: Position reports to the Chief Executive Officer ______________________________________________________________________________ CAR is looking to hire a full-charge bookkeeper who has a positive attitude, works well with others, enjoys talking with customers over the phone and can keep accurate bookkeeping records. We are a small office setting in which employees help each other in all aspects of the office work. Qualified candidates should have an accounting degree and/or 2 years of practical bookkeeping experience and be familiar with Windows Office applications. ABOUT US: Capital Area REALTORS® (CAR) is a progressive and established not-for-profit trade association providing mission critical services to REALTORS® and Affiliates in an eleven county area throughout Central Illinois. We are located at 3149 Robbins Rd in the southwest area of Springfield.
BASIC FUNCTION: Work under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer to administer all bookkeeping functions of the Capital Area REALTORS®. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Full range of bookkeeping activities - Accounts receivable: invoices, statements, collections - Accounts payable: verify bills, payments - Account reconciliation - Maintain chart of accounts - Prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports. - perform general data entry - Record cash and credit card receipts, make bank deposits, petty cash - Maintain an orderly accounting filing system - Prepare and file monthly, quarterly and year end deposit taxes, as required - Coordinate annual audit with CAR’s auditor • Record employee vacation, sick and personal time • Work collaboratively with employees to obtain necessary information • Provide spreadsheet reports and analysis to management • Assist with development of annual budget • Oversight of small retail store • Assist other office personal as needed. • Answer telephone and help greet walk-ins, when necessary
QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to process large work volumes • Extremely organized, fast and accurate. • Good communication skills, both written and verbal • Manage projects and meet deadlines • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook and Windows) • Experience using some type of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree, proprietary, etc.) •Ability to perform detailed work in a fast-paced environment • Ability to keep information and materials in a confidential manner •Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimum supervision •Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and to work independently under tight deadlines

TRANSPORTATION REQUIRED: Reliable transportation and auto insurance is required for making bank deposits.
