We are the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), an innovative professional medical association located in Darien, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago. We’re looking for an Assistant Executive Director to provide leadership, vision, strategy and tactical implementation of activities for the AASM as a key member of the senior management team.
What You’ll Do
Provide leadership and oversight to multiple departments i.e. education, marketing, meeting, and membership. Create and inspire high-performance teams by removing barriers, providing resources and empowering others to achieve a common goal.
Build and direct the management team with the Executive Director. Play an active role in their professional growth and development by establishing measures of performance, productivity, and quality improvement.
Collaborate with the management team to create an organizational strategy for their respective departments. Create vision, address broader issues and influence and contribute to overall organizational strategy.
Ensure fiscal accountability through ongoing communication with the management team making certain activities are within budgeted guidelines. Develop cost controls and ensure maximum utilization of available resources.
Advise and make recommendations to the Executive Director concerning budget, cost and financial matters related to respective departments.
Provide direct support to the Board of Directors with the management of logistics or material preparation for board meetings and board committees.
Fulfill the duties of the Executive Director (ED) in the ED’s absence.
Other job duties customarily associated with a senior management position.
Travel required, which will include quarterly BOD meetings on weekends, at minimum.
What We Need
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, MBA and/or CAE highly desirable
Minimum three years of senior leadership with demonstrated success in achieving exceptional results
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
Results and action-oriented; ability to prioritize and willing to hold others and self accountable regarding commitments and goals
Superior planning and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., reports, correspondence)
A combination of strong leadership, management skills, and creative problem-solving
