This is a remote position that does not require the candidate to work form a specific geographic location. As the Director of Community Engagement, this position leads a broad range of activities across the association and requires the ability to think strategically and work collaboratively in a small staff environment. Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, the Director will play a key role in developing and implementing plans to engage members, donors, partners, volunteers, and the public in AWIS initiatives, recruiting and retaining AWIS members, and serving as the primary point of contact with AWIS chapters and affiliates.
This is a senior-level role that requires extraordinary people skills and excellent communication skills. You will also need to love and manage the detailed administrative and analytical side, as well.
Specific responsibilities include:
Create a stellar member experience that delivers extraordinary value with our members and potential members.
Provide above-and-beyond customer service and support.
Welcome new members, donors, and volunteers. Get them involved, connect them with one another and with AWIS grassroots network.
Direct member service operations, including retention and renewal program activities, budget development, and effectively utilizing technical resources.
Lead efforts to grow membership by implementing a comprehensive membership plan, overseeing the development of membership marketing materials, and strengthening AWIS’ membership benefits including webinars and workshops.
Lead growth and development of AWIS chapters and affiliates by working closely with volunteer leaders to improve recruitment and retention of targeted members.
Establish goals and objectives for membership growth and benchmark against current membership data to identify and assess areas of strength and weakness.
Maintain communication with potential and actual members, readers, advertisers, sponsors, and conduct environmental scans to identify potential members and customers.
Review and recommend technology needs to support optimum engagement.
Manage renewals, donor and volunteer recognition, and chapter recognition programs.
Build comprehensive lists of potential member and donor targets and cultivate relationships for future opportunities.
Commitment to AWIS’ mission, passionate about association innovation, and knowledgeable about and interested in membership development.
Minimum of 7 years of combined experience in membership, donor relations or customer service.
Experience working in the STEM community.
A self-starter who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and can work independently, prioritize and handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment with keen attention to detail.
Demonstrated budget experience.
Proficiency in an association management system; knowledge of YourMembership database is desirable but not essential.
Demonstrated strengths in strategic planning and problem solving, including planning and coordinating various initiatives.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Comfortable in any professional environment, with ability to work well and interface with volunteers and board members essential.
