POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Membership and Communications for the Railway Supply Institute (RSI) will oversee member retention, recruitment and overall member relations, and lead overall communications for the association. Responsibilities include developing membership and communication strategy to spur attendance at RSI events, raising the association’s profile to achieve advocacy goals, and maintaining strong relationships with members and other key constituents. This position is a great opportunity for the right candidate to advance the interests of the North American railway supply community while working as part of a small, dynamic team. The position requires up to 25% travel.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Design and implement strategies that encourage member engagement and retention. Engage with RSI members to ensure they are maximizing the value of their membership, recruit new members, manage membership database, monitor and provide analysis of membership-related data and trends, and manage dues renewal process.
Design, prepare and distribute member communications including an email newsletter, annual reports, and other materials.
Assist in the development and execution of effective and timely communications strategies to support RSI’s advocacy efforts. Serve as primary media liaison for RSI, coordinating media relations, outreach, and other activities to promote the visibility and professional image of the Association.
Develop marketing and communications strategies and materials to drive participation in RSI events and activities including trade shows, annual meeting, advocacy events, and committee activities.
Produce fact sheets, talking points, press releases, testimony, presentations, news releases and other materials to support RSI’s communication goals.
Develop content for the RSI website using Timberlake AMS software, working to ensure that posted content remains current and accurate.
Manage social media activity on behalf of RSI to maximize engagement and amplify the Association’s voice.

Bachelor of communications, journalism, marketing or similar field
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to effectively develop, communicate and execute membership drives and communications plans
Ability to effectively interact and maintain strong working relationships with a broad array of stakeholders, including high-level corporate and government officials, members, and the media
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a results-driven approach and the ability to work independently; strong presentation skills
Must be comfortable in a small staff and small office environment. Director will work closely with all staff and report to the board of directors as needed.
Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, goals and project initiatives to meet deadlines
Computer proficiency: Experience with Timberlake or comparable association management software, Constant Contact or similar email marketing software; Microsoft Office Suite
Social media management experience (Twitter, LinkedIn)
Understanding of and experience with the railroad industry is a plus
Additional Salary Information: This position is full time with benefits. Starting salary of $55,000-$75,000 a year depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, two weeks’ vacation, transportation assistance, and 7% employer contribution to a SEP IRA. RSI is located near Capitol Hill (Federal Center Metro) and has a business casual office environment.
