The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) the largest society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research (O.R.), management science, and analytics is searching for a Director of Membership & Communities.
This position will serve as the expert on global membership recruitment, engagement and retention, including value proposition development, retention analysis and retention campaigns. The Director will develop, manage and evaluate comprehensive and unified plans that increase membership, drive member engagement, increase external awareness, and meet organizational objectives.
Must lead and manage a department that is integral to positioning INFORMS as the industry leader, with clear messaging, strong outreach relationships, effective research on current trends, and relationships within our communities and affiliate organizations to include board, Council and Committees. The Director plays an integral role in developing strategies for growth and the development of services and benefits aligned with our strategic business plan.
The Director is a member of the senior leadership team, which maintains a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top-quality personnel, both paid and volunteer. The Directors serves as the Board of Directors’ liaison for related Vice Presidents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will evaluate, design, develop, and coordinate projects and lead initiatives for member acquisition, onboarding, retention, dues structure, multi-channel renewal, and communications needed to achieve membership goals and to improve service and quality for members and affiliate groups.
Provide strategic direction in developing innovative member programs and benefits at both the international and local levels.
Lead development and implementation of comprehensive strategy to achieve targeted membership goals and expand the member experience.
Develop effective recruitment, retention, and engagement messaging to identify appropriate channels to help members understand and utilize member benefits.
Stay abreast of best practices on membership, engagement, and membership marketing and recommend potential new member services and affinity programs.
Stay abreast of best practices with communities and articulate the need for and value of change when necessary.
Direct the overall development, operations and promotion of communities within the organization and manage their external relationships.
Provide strategic guidance and support to community leadership consistent with INFORMS mission and goals. Establish and manage productive relationships with community leaders to enhance the connection between INFORMS and each community.
Work with marketing team to develop and coordinate regular mechanisms to monitor member satisfaction and solicit feedback.
Direct departmental operations including: personnel; training and development; budget preparation and administration; short/long term forecasting; and continual process improvement.
Understand data metrics and how to use them to drive results. Ensure integrity of data by developing and ensuring adherence to processes and procedures for data and list management. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place and report progress.
Research and analyze competitors to ensure our ability to differentiate and promote our offerings.
Direct the development of policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility.
Work with in a highly collaborative manner with all staff and teams to achieve the best outcome.
The Director will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 10 years’ experience, including a role as a senior-level executive in an association.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience effectively managing and developing people and programs, producing and managing complex budgets, setting and achieving annual targets, designing and executing integrated outreach plans and activities.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; talented at building consensus, inspiring others to action and leading cross-functional teams.
Strong strategic planning and organizational skills required; demonstrated ability to plan, analyze, and coordinate activities.
Capable of developing new initiatives from concept through implementation.
Experience in managing, developing, and coaching staff.
Knowledge of current trends in the association industry
Experience working with volunteers and in associations.
Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting data and developing it into a strategic vision and to guide operational plans.
High level of initiative, creativity, excellent written and oral communication skills
Computer skills must include proficiency in Microsoft office suite, databases, Access, and AMS software. Tableau experience a plus.
Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous activities including, but not limited to, sustained activities (continual bending, stooping) and lifting and moving packages up to 25lbs.
