The Director, Digital Communications is responsible for content management of the American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) websites and other digital communication platforms. The Director, Digital Communications will drive the development, editing, and maintenance of content and will keep the websites’ content current and accurate, as well as recommend strategies for search optimization and presentation enhancements. He/she will utilize quantitative and qualitative measurement methods to demonstrate achievement of objectives, and design strategies and tactics in response to metrics for continuous improvement.
In addition to possessing superb writing and editing skills, he/she must have the ability to think strategically and be a problem solver. This position is responsible for all websites, including the ACI Members Only Website, and social media platforms; consequently, accuracy and attention to detail are paramount.
The Director, Digital Communications will work closely with the VP, Sustainability, Communications and Membership to ensure dissemination of clear, consistent and strategic messages across all digital platforms. In addition, he/she will work closely with the Senior Director, Information Technology to ensure the best systems and technology are in place for online digital communications.
Bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or relevant discipline required.
A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in producing and directing digital communications, marketing, or other relevant fields, preferably in a nonprofit trade association.
Strong communication skills, oral and written with the ability to articulate ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
Demonstrated ability to conceive, write, and convey complex technical ideas and audience specific content in plain language.
Expert understanding of new and existing digital content delivery methods, including mobile and social media.
Proficient knowledge of HTML, XML, etc.
Proficient in photo and video editing.
Proven experience implementing content marketing principles and best practices, and applying Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) techniques.
Proficient in website analytics tools and content management systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint).
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with all levels of management, staff, and members.
Ability to translate ideas into actionable plans and tactics.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Design, develop, and execute a thorough digital communications strategy that encompasses the ACI website, blog, microsites, news media outreach, digital marketing campaigns, content development and optimization.
Lead collaborative efforts with ACI staff to manage ACI’s social media strategy to include publishing and disseminating content on all social media platforms, utilizing best practices to maximize distribution and effectiveness.
Collaborate with VP, Sustainability, Communications and Membership to analyze and actively use data and metrics to drive editorial and strategic content decisions and to create accountability for results.
Assist VP, Sustainability, Communications and Membership, as necessary, in writing and dissemination of news releases and specific media outreach; serve, as needed, as a spokesperson for the Institute to select media outlets.
Collaborate with Senior Director, Information Technology to evaluate emerging technologies, and provide recommendations and expertise where appropriate.
Maintain knowledge of current industry practices to make recommendations related to information design to improve and grow ACI’s online and digital presence.
Partner with VP, Sustainability, Communication and Membership as well as the Senior Vice President, Meetings and Education to develop and execute strategies to increase ACI brand awareness.
Lead and manage digital projects from concept development to implementation.
