Washington, DC based association management firm seeks highly motivated individual to proactively manage finances and resource planning for the efficient operation of AMS clients. Primary responsibilities for this position are to manage financial transactions, oversee the accounting vendor and support planning activities related to the implementation of product stewardship programs. This individual will take a lead position owning the financial matters of clients and will contribute to client objectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategies. The position reports to the client Executive Director(s).

Financial Controls (@500 hrs./yr.)
Ensure all invoices are processed in timely fashion, reviewed for accuracy, and appropriately allocated between account codes for programs and jurisdictions
Accurately track costs for professional services, administration, collection and disposal, and communications. Develop and implement key performance indicators for financial reporting
Provide leadership accounts of financial performance on monthly basis along with forecasts. Work with senior leadership to have a management briefing on a routine basis. The briefing will provide details and anticipate deliverables
Establish budgets and rolling forecasts in conjunction with the leadership team. Review the actuals vs budget and provide a detailed analysis of any variances against budget
Liaise with auditors and be fully responsible for ensuring client financial decisions, documentation, and tax liabilities are in good order. Look after income (i.e., dues) and engage with client to ensure cashflow appropriately manages risk to client
Provide routine updates on progress of work to meet specific objectives and timelines
Financial Continuous Improvement (@500 hrs./yr.)
Model financial implications of alternative program and service offerings
Consistently review every aspect of the client costs to ensure the business is operating in the most efficient manner possible. Liaise with leadership team to provide information in relation to the cost-effective areas of the business and identify areas for improvement.
Manage financial aspects of vendor RFP activities
Operational Program Implementation (as needed)
Lead or contribute to projects and operations to deliver all compliance timelines, reporting, and other submissions
Assist in audit of contracts and vendor performance
Additional responsibilities as determined by supervisor
This position may require 10-15% domestic travel throughout the year.
This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience managing financial controls and/or implementing accounting operations for a broad-spectrum project
Strong finance and financial reporting skills are essential
Strong written, spoken, and presentation communication skills
Previous reverse logistics experience
Experience working in highly regulated environment and interacting with regulators
Familiar with nonprofit tax laws
Experience managing multiple stakeholders
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple projects
Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and resourceful under pressure
Ability to work in a team environment with ability to influence others to create a positive working environment
Strong Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills
Experience with product stewardship preferred
