Chapter Relations, Customer Service and Support, Membership
The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the national professional organization for podiatrists. We are located in Bethesda, MD, and have more than 12,000 members across the US and Puerto Rico. We are seeking candidates for the role of Membership Service Representative to respond to membership inquiries concerning membership services, act as a liaison to state component societies concerning membership issues, and maintain accurate and timely membership records of the association. The membership services representative is often the primary point-of-contact with our constituents, setting the proper tone of the relationship with APMA. This is a full-time, on-site position that reports to the Director of Membership.
Among the expectations for the position are the following:
Process membership applications, reinstatements, membership status changes, transfers, suspensions, etc.
Maintain records on dues payments and monthly balances.
Update membership records.
Assist with the end of the month closing, balancing, reporting, and statistical reports.
Maintain a working knowledge of APMA member benefit programs.
Fill-in for front desk receptionist.
Provide exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate will have had previous experience working for a membership department for a nonprofit association or have had significant customer service experience. In addition to the above, the candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to work with others in a team environment and independently as necessary, and be skillful in addressing and prioritizing multiple tasks simultaneously while consistently satisfying deadlines.

Established in 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association is the premier professional organization representing the nation’s Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (podiatrists). The APMA represents a majority of the estimated 15,000 podiatrists in the country. Within APMA’s umbrella of organizations are 53 component societies in states and other jurisdictions, as well as 11 affiliated and related societies. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine are physicians and surgeons who practice on the lower extremities, primarily on feet and ankles. The preparatory education of most DPMs includes four years of undergraduate work, followed by four years in an accredited podiatric medical school, followed by a residency.
