The Security Industry Association (SIA) is seeking a government relations professional to support the SIA Government Relations team in the development and implementation of SIA’s public policy initiatives and related events.
The Security Industry Association (SIA) is an international trade association representing more than 900 global security businesses which are leaders in developing solutions to protect people, residential and enterprise settings, and critical infrastructure around the world. The mission of SIA is to serve as a catalyst for success within the global security industry through insight, influence, and information.
Track and analyze state policy developments relevant to the security industry and develop related engagement strategies including but not limited to homeland security, procurement, school security, cyber security, etc.
Represent SIA in advocacy efforts before state legislators, Congressional staff, and government agencies
Conduct thorough research and communicate timely information about legislative and regulatory proposals through written materials including newsletters, blog postings, web site content, and industry publications
Assist in tracking and analysis of federal agency programs and legislation in Congress
Coordinate grassroots member engagement efforts
Assist in establishing/maintaining relationships with partner organizations and external stakeholders
Assist in coordinating internal committees and working groups
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
State-level advocacy or legislative experience highly desired
Substantive experience with 1-4 years in legislature, regulatory and political process at the federal and/or state level of government or related field required
Exceptional research, writing, editing and organizational skills
Confident presentation style
Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines, maintaining a high standard of work
A pro-business outlook and interest in security and/or information technology issues
Availability to travel up to 25% (domestic)
Experience with database management (Aptify experience a strong plus) communications, and/or event planning a plus
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
