Opportunity and Key Responsibilities

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of ONCC, as well as setting strategic direction for ONCC in collaboration with the ONCC Board of Directors.
The Executive Director has oversight of the ONCC, serves as part of the ONS Enterprise Executive Leadership team (ELT), and collaborates with the ONCC Board of Directors.
Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all ONCC activities.
Directs administrative functions of ONCC.
Directs and evaluates ONCC marketing and recognition activities.
Prepares business plans for proposed and/or new products and services.
Ensures that ONCC programs meet industry standards and that eligible programs achieve and maintain national accreditation.
Provides staff liaison to ONS, Institute for Credentialing Excellence, American Board of Nursing Specialties and other outside organizations.
Approves reviews and coordinates ONCC appeals per review and appeals policies and procedures.
Provides support to Executive Subcommittee, Finance Subcommittee, and Discipline Committees of the ONCC Board of Directors.
Serves as part of ONS Enterprise Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and actively participates in organizational review, strategic planning, and special projects as assigned by the CEO.
ONCC Board of Directors
Assists the ONCC Board President to develop meeting agendas and ensures all necessary materials are prepared for ONCC Board meetings.
Attends all ONCC Board meetings.
Prepares analyses of issues and makes recommendations for action to the Board of Director.
Assists the ONCC Board in long-range strategic planning.
Provides support (e.g. providing background material, options, and recommendations) to ad hoc teams and task forces as needed.
Reviews cost/benefit information. Interprets and presents recommendations to the Board.
Plans and facilitates new Board member orientation.
Provides staff support to Board Committees: Executive, Discipline, Finance.
Prepares and monitors ONCC budget and investment portfolio with ONCC Treasurer and CFO.
Obtains all ONCC proposals and bids as necessary.
Approves and signs contracts with consultants and vendors.
Stays abreast of current national certification/credentialing practices and regulations and communicates important matters to the Board.
Communicates with regulatory bodies and other outside organizations regarding trends in credentialing.
Approves final copy of ONCC News and other ONCC publications/communications.
Interprets and reports test data to the ONCC Board of Directors.
Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Policy, Business Administration, or health related degree required; minimum of five years of experience in a management role preferably in association management or certification management required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skilled in change management, communication, customer service, initiative, leadership, managing performance, systems thinking, teamwork.
Knowledge of psychometric principles and concepts; understanding of association management and non-profit management principles; knowledge of industry standards for certification programs; understanding of accreditation criteria for certification programs; understanding of test development and administration processes for certification examinations; understanding of trends in nursing and cancer care and the relational impact on health policy.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) is a non-profit organization that develops, administers, and evaluates programs for certification in oncology nursing. ONCC was incorporated in 1984 and is governed by a Board of Directors, who represent various levels of certification in oncology nursing and the public at large. ONCC administered its first certification examination, the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) examination in 1986. Today, ONCC offers eight credential programs.
