- Facilitate overall regulatory advocacy and health policy strategy in concert with the Executive Director, President, and related volunteer committees.
- Provide expert guidance on physician payment and health care finance issues, working collaboratively across the organization to ensure consistency in communications, practice management content and member education.
- Educate committees, board, staff and other volunteers about the regulatory issues that may affect the field of pain medicine.
- Serve as the primary staff support for the volunteer ASRA Pain Medicine representatives to the AMA CPT and RUC (advisors). This support includes document review, meeting preparation, meeting attendance, and research as necessary.
- Support ASRA Pain Medicines’s AMA delegation for annual and interim meetings.
- Write issue briefs, response letters, news items, blog posts, news release, etc related to pain medicine.
- Oversee the annual update of ASRA Coder, an app with coding information for the field.
- Attend coalition meetings with or without volunteer leaders on behalf of ASRA Pain Medicine and report back to the leadership on the outcomes of those meetings.
- Train, or coordinate training, for volunteers for the unique roles with health policy and regulatory advocacy
- Collaborate/partner with contacts in the federal government to educate them on pain medicine issues.
- Support the work of both the Guidelines and Regulatory Advocacy and Practice Management committees.
- Oversee regulatory contractors to track regulatory issues
- Other related responsibilities may be assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required (Statistics, economics, healthcare finance, public policy, regulatory policy, or public health degree preferred)
At least five to seven years’ experience in a similar role within a medical association or society
Experience with AMA RUC and CPT required
Experience with a regulatory agency a plus
Executive presence and awareness
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
Deep understanding of the healthcare regulatory environment.
Ability to prioritize; plan and carry out responsibilities independently or as part of a team.
Diplomacy, discretion, independent judgment
Ability to build collaborative, working relationships with volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to travel, work the time it takes to get the job done and lift up to 20 pounds, as necessary.
