Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Director of Osborne Social Ventures (OSV) is responsible for leading Osborne's social enterprise efforts. OSV serves two bottom lines: business success in the marketplace and success developing the talents and building the earning power of formerly incarcerated people. OSV's janitorial business employs formerly incarcerated people in transitional commercial cleaning and building maintenance jobs. To support workers' long-term success, OSV provides classroom and on-the-job hard skills training, social support services, and permanent job placement and retention support.
The Director will assess and strengthen the current janitorial business and explore and develop new business ventures in similar or different fields. Their primary focus will be on overall business oversight and management, new business development, and ensuring that OSV participants are provided employment opportunities in our social enterprises that lead to long-term sustainable employment. The Director is also responsible for developing, expanding, and managing OSV's social support program. The Director will be charged with building an environment that seamlessly integrates business operations and the social support program in order to achieve the double bottom line mission.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Define and lead social enterprise strategy, including planning, execution, and evaluation of all social enterprise businesses.
Oversee all aspects of the social enterprise program, including overall program design, the social support component, business operations and development, the creation of new business lines, program quality assurance, and data collection and impact evaluation activities.
Collaborate with Osborne's Workforce Development program and other Osborne programs to maintain and expand pathways to employment and coordinated programmatic support to Osborne's participants.
Develop and effectively manage annual budgets to ensure the financial health of the department, including close monitoring of service utilization, revenue, and expenses and making adjustments as needed throughout the year.
Develop operating models to strengthen the sustainability and impact of our social enterprise.
Establish and monitor performance metrics to track progress on achieving the vision of this initiative.
Oversee the expansion of the unit's Salesforce-based data system for tracking social supports as well as program operations
Develop the OSV brand by developing and leveraging relationships to build the program's social enterprises and position OSV as a thought leader in the field.
Work directly with the OSV team, other departments, and stakeholders to ensure a broad understanding of the program's goals.
Build an environment that seamlessly integrates business operations and the social support program in order to achieve the double bottom line mission.
Perform at a high level in a complex, fluid environment.
Supervise a team of 4, including the social support staff, business developer, and director of a business line with 130+ employees
Oversee, strengthen, and expand the OSV social support program
Increase the program size and the number of transitional employment positions.
Expand the breadth of programming by implementing additional learning opportunities, building the referral partner base, and establishing support groups to meet the evolving needs of the participants.
Evaluate the success of business lines in order to improve their efficiency, quality, capacity, and performance, and to position them for growth.
Secure, review, and maintain effective contracts with business entities, including preferred source contracts through the New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID), to promote ongoing work opportunities for OSV's Janitorial Maintenance Services.
Engage current customers to obtain feedback, improve customer relations, and market additional services.
Act as a thought leader in the fields of social enterprise and workforce development for people with criminal legal histories.
Evaluate current markets and recommend the development of new services and resources to capitalize on emerging opportunities for business growth.
Develop, implement, and evaluate business plans for each enterprise.
Create and conduct feasibility analyses and oversee the formal process of development for all new business lines.
Ensure that OSV meets financial and programming objectives.
Establish a business development strategy to create, grow, and sustain current businesses.
Provide assistance to the Development team in developing grant proposals.
Assist in the generation of compelling proposal concepts.
Provide data and outcome measurements to support proposals and reporting.
Cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a business-related field or relevant experience launching or running a successful business.
Experience with NYC-based business development is strongly preferred.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the workforce development and social enterprise fields.
Four or more years of supervisory experience.
Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with proven ability to be clear and concise and to influence and understand their audience.
Proficiency with Google workspace or similar applications.
Experience with Salesforce preferred
